Find Your Tribe

I’ve been a trainer for nearly 15 years, and have worked with individuals living with Parkinson’s disease since 2011. My clients have taught me SO much, not just about training, but about life in general! In this blog I share some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way…

As with most challenges and goals in our life, we do so much better when we have allies supporting us, and I think this is even more true when you have Parkinson’s disease. An important lesson I’ve learned is that you must find your tribe! Surround yourself with:

  • other folks who have PD, and are being proactive about managing it;

  • professionals who specialize in movement disorders and PD specifically (I’ll expand on this in an upcoming blog post);

  • friends and family members who will encourage you to be as independent as possible;

  • people who are positive and fun to be around!

PD not only affects your physical movements, but also your emotional health: it can rob you of your motivation, make you more prone to depression, and make you feel isolated. Your tribe can be a powerful tool to counteract these, keep you motivated and help you see your true potential!
