Chris Bentajado

Certified Trainer / Instructor. Chris is a certified personal trainer through American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and is currently pursuing his BS in Kinesiology from Cal State University Long Beach.

A self-described “chubby kid” growing up, Chris never thought sports and fitness were for him. But when he was invited by his parents to join them and their friends as they worked out to Billy Blanks’ Tae Bo VHS tape in the garage, and he FELL HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE! Chris started to cross train with running, and later found pilates and yoga. He has found that exercising is an excellent way to cope with stress, which has really helped these past few years of intense schooling.

Chris is quirky, silly, and can be found doing yoga poses at random times. And his humor and positive energy are contagious – his tough classes and training sessions are always filled with laughter and fun. He (half) jokes: “Because exercise gives you endorphins, and endorphins make you happy, and happy people just don’t shoot their husbands!”

PHILOSOPHY
“Kaizen” is the Japanese word for continual improvement. I am a believer that we all have the capabilities to create a better day than our yesterdays, and that sometimes all it takes is a gentle push in the right direction to get the growth process started.

WHAT TYPES OF CLIENTS DO YOU WORK WITH?
I love working with all clients – whether it’s strength training, weight loss, sport-specific, you name it. I love the variety, and how each body is unique! What’s important to me is working with clients that are truly wanting to increase their quality of life and do not define fitness as a number on a scale, but by what they are able to do: complete that 5th pull-up they were never able to achieve, walk up a certain number of flights without being winded, reduce/eliminate pain, or play their sport better.

WHAT MAKES YOUR TRAINING UNIQUE?
If you’re looking for the whistle blowing, scream in your face, calling you “Puke-erella” kind of trainer, that isn’t me. I have a kind yet firm way of pushing individuals to their next level of greatness, and am grateful to be able to do that through Recreation Fitness.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I absolutely love being part of the journey and establishing a deep connection with the students and clients I get to work with. I am a firm believer that self-care is a wildfire that is ignited with a single spark. If I am able to help start that fire in the souls of the people I encounter through fitness, then that is all I could ever ask for in life.
