Carina Means

Certified Trainer / Instructor. Carina holds a Bachleor’s degree in Kinesiology, is a certified personal trainer through National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and was a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) for over 16 years. She also holds specialty certifications in TRX, Gravity training, Kettlebell, and Special Populations (folks with specific health conditions and injuries who need specialized training).

Carina was drawn to a fitness career because of her own experience with sports and injury. She grew up playing soccer, eventually competed on the collegiate level. Along the way she experienced intense endurance and strength training, several injuries and major surgeries, and consequently many long hours in the athletic training rooms and physical therapy rooms. All of these experiences sparked Carina’s passion for personal training. After her college career ended, she started to feel her body change physically and emotionally, and needed exercise in a different way than she ever had. “I started to workout for a different purpose – this time I needed it to function in my everyday life. I needed to balance my moods/emotions, change my goals, change my eating habits, lift weights differently, change my cardiovascular exercise training, and most of all learn to self motivate!” Through this, she learned how powerful personal training (as opposed to team sports training) could be in her own life, and wanted to help others in the same way.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO TRAIN WITH YOU?
I have worked with a really wide variety of clients through my years of training, so my sessions pull from all that. No two workouts are alike, and I love creating super-specific programs for my clients to not only address their physical goals and needs, but also what I think would be most fun for them.

WHAT MAKES YOUR TRAINING UNIQUE?
My training style is a combination of my diverse experience over the years. It’s an integrated approach, a combination of functional training, performance-based training, and specialized population training. Challenging and motivating each individual client to do their very best and reach their individual goals and needs is my mission. But most importantly, I strive to really help my clients find the fun in fitness!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I really enjoy creating specialized personal and group programs that push my clients beyond their own abilities. Being a part of someone’s transformation is awesome! It is really motivating as a trainer to see exercise how positively change a person, not just physically, but in how they feel about themselves and how they approach even their non-fitness goals…
